Autopsy Today for Man That Died in Lake County Jail Custody

(Waukegan, IL) An autopsy is scheduled for today (Tuesday) after the death of a Lake County Jail inmate. Officials say the inmate, a 50-year-old Zion man, started having a seizure on Saturday afternoon while entering his single person cell. Medical staff at the jail said when the seizure stopped, the inmate stopped breathing. Several life saving methods were attempted, and eventually the inmate was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sheriff’s officials say the man had been in custody since October of 2022 for charges of being an armed habitual criminal, a felon in possession of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Despite no foul play being suspected, the death is being investigated by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
